A Time for Fearless Witness
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
We are living in a time in which we may be asked to take a stand or a side. When asked about any polarizing issue of our time, I wonder how we will respond. I wonder how I will respond. On what information do we base our opinions? On what values do we claim our position?
While at a recent gathering of pastors from our Annual Conference, I heard a powerful sermon. It was a witness - a strong and personal testimony of the love of God and the call from Jesus to follow. The preacher simply said, "I need more Jesus!"
He went on to explain - that horrific events and/or heated issues can place each of us in positions where silence or anonymity are no longer acceptable responses. Sooner or later, we will be given the opportunity to speak up and to speak out regarding injustice, oppression, or evil in what ever form it presents.
His choice - to seek more Jesus! To follow with renewed spirit, that given by God's Holy Spirit. His choice - to preach Jesus fearlessly. To witness to the love and grace of God we find in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ.
What choice do we make? I need more Jesus.
In service for the kingdom of God
