SEASONS OF THE CHRISTIAN YEAR
As the Aspen trees change color in the Autumn months, we recognize the changing seasons in nature. So too, as Christians, we recognize the seasons of the Christian year. Beginning with Advent and Christmas, we begin the year in late November. And then we move to the new calendar year and a time of discipleship in the Baptism of our Lord and the healing, preaching, and teaching ministries of Jesus. We celebrate Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lent as a time of self-reflection and preparation for the celebration of Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus. Holy Week and Easter Sunday springs us forward for 50 days and into the remainder of the year emboldened with the Pentecost Event which brings the Holy Spirit of God upon the church. |
